Drop Off and Pick Up

Making a bike ride out of  trip to the post office is a great way to inject a little adventure into the Friday lunch break.  It just so happened, there was a hole in the fog and a little blue sky peaking through.  Dropping off an outbound saddle.

After the drop off, and picking up the Pro Compe I was waiting for this week, it was time to hit the park for our first playground trip.

Then off through town to check the surf,

Around the point and back towards home the clouds and fog were closing in,

It is hard to imagine a better way to spend 45 minutes in the middle of the day.

Happy Friday, Happy Father’s day and Go Play Outside this weekend!

Weekend Project

My Father-in-law has been riding his bike more and more recently.  Mostly for fun and exercise, but with the addition of the Acorn bag, the utility aspect really came home in the last couple of weeks.  It is amazing what even a small bag can add for those who have never carried more than a spare tube.  The bike is a Univega Alpina comp in fantastic condition with a great Suntour XC Comp / Ritchey Logic build that is still going strong 20 years now.  The original knobby tire was still on front.  This weekend I was able to put on a set of Schwalbe Big Apples and reset the cockpit a little with an Albatross bar.

The smile was instant as he took it for a test ride around the block.  It is really cool to get someone so stoked.  There is a bit more it will need like bearing repack, maybe some new brake shoes, but all in all the bike is in great shape and ready to go.

Sunday Market Ride

Homeward bound with a full load

Today was a good haul: 5lbs grass-fed beef, 2 dozen eggs, taters, onions, zucchini, green beans, corn, a bunch of carrots and 3 pints of straw berries.  The best part about summer is the food sometimes.  Today I met another rancher selling beef, there seems to be somebody at almost every market in our area now, and that is a good thing as far as I can tell.  Our summer overcast has set in, but there was no wind today and riding conditions were prime.  The more I ride my Roadeo, even with loads, the more I wonder why I have some of the bikes in the garage.  There is a bit of overlap at the moment and it may be time to reassess the herd.

Wednesday Swap Meet

With a pull stronger than the gravity of Jupiter

And the guy on the corner had some brake levers I was looking for, not a bad day.  The bike and a thin wallet keep me from hauling more home than I should.  There was another Singer there, calling out to me, but it will go home with another.

June gloom is kicking in here in sunny SoCal as well, burns off by lunch time though.
